MLB: Yankees send top prospect Gleyber Torres to Minor Leagues

The New York Yankees have ordered top prospect Gleyber Torres to Minor League camp. So it should be clear that the infielder will not be part of the Bronx Bombers’ opening day squad.

Torres is sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre via Minor League option and is now preparing for the season at Minor League Camp. MLB’s fifth-best prospect according to the MLB pipeline had missed large parts of the pre-season with an elbow injury.

“I feel good. It’s a team decision,”said Torres,”I have no control over it. I’ll just stay focused, keep working and be ready for my next chance.”

Torres had been considered a candidate for the Second Baseman’s job before the start of the training camp, but was not quite the same after the long break following a Tommy John Surgery last June. He only hit. 160 in 25 at-bats. In the previous year he came on a slash line of. 287/. 383/. 480 in 55 games between Double- and Triple-A.

“It’s not easy to survive nine months without games and then come back perfectly. I’m just a human being,”Torres continued,”I stay focused and go where they want, do my job and wait for my chance.”

Who will now start at the second base for the Yankees is still unclear. It could end up on Tyler Wade, but after Neil Walker’s engagement on Monday, this is also an option.
