Handball: THW Kiel brings back former star Jicha as co-trainer

THW Kiel brings its former backstroke star Filip Jicha back to the fjord. The 35-year-old will be co-trainer for the coming season under Alfred Gislason (58).

Jicha has been awarded a three-year contract, as the zebras announced on Friday:”I am delighted to have the opportunity to help Alfred to relieve him and to learn from him and to benefit from his vast wealth of experience,” said Jicha.

Jicha had played for Kiel from 2007 to 2015, and in 2010 the Czech was named world handball player. He won 14 national and international titles with the North Germans, including two Champions League titles, before switching to FC Barcelona. He ended his career in October 2017 due to injury.

“For my family and I, the return is like coming home, also because the contact to THW Kiel and the city has never been broken off,” said Jicha:”My goal is to convince the club with hard, honest work even in my new coaching function” In the handball scene, the rumour persists that Jicha Gislason could one day inherit in Kiel.
