Alpine Skiing: Public expectations for Hirscher”a bottomless barrel

One last weekend. The last few kilometres of racing. Then the Ski World Cup 2017/18 is over. And Marcel Hirscher is already longing for the end. There is still enough juice in the batteries for the final in Aare, but after a long Olympic season it is time to switch off.

“The press conference in Vienna on Wednesday, then I pull the plug, complete intermission. On and off wherever…”, he tells the crown that he will withdraw completely from the (social) media this summer as well.

Understandably so, because this winter the Griss around the Salzburg was once again a bit bigger. The fact that the public is constantly expecting new successes and records from him is also undermining his substance:”It’s true, this is a bottomless barrel, simply insatiable. But that’s the game. This is the job of the media, and certainly a sign of appreciation for me,” says Hirscher,”but my job is to ski fast. “It’s better than writing that the stag should stop nice and slow.”

After the intensive last few months, however, the ace of skis is beginning to suspect something like Hirscher’s tiredness:”I believe that after the fortunately very numerous reports about my successes, people are already looking forward to a Hirscher-free time. They’ll get sick and tired of me someday.”
