Handball: Only one guaranteed CL court for HBL

From the 2019/2020 season, the Handball Bundesliga will only receive a guaranteed starting place for the Champions League.

The European Handball Federation announced that this new regulation applies to all nations in order to ensure a more uniform distribution. However, applications for further starting places are possible.

For the next season, the EHF had already reduced the top tier contingent for German clubs from three to two. In the past, the Bundesliga had always received a third ticket via a wildcard.

Most recently, the German Handball League was on a confrontation course with the European umbrella organisation’s Champions League reform plans from 2020. The permanent schedule problems are also a recurring cause for discussion – as was recently the case with the post for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
