Combination world champion Björn Kircheisen ends his career with the end of the season. This was announced by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Sunday during the World Cup in Klingenthal. The 34-year-old from Johanngeorgenstadt will contest his last races at the World Cup finale in Schonach next weekend.

Since 2002, Kircheisen had won 16 medals at major international events. With eleven second places, the Saxon was nicknamed “Silbereisen” before he finally made it to relay gold at the 2017 World Cup in Lahti.

The 17-time World Cup winner travelled five times to the Winter Olympics, but most recently remained a replacement in Pyeongchang. Kircheisen wants to keep the combination as a coach.
