Speed skating: Herzog wins overall World Cup standings at 500-metre distance

Vanessa Herzog finished her most successful speed skating season to date on Sunday by winning the overall World Cup standings on the 500m distance.

The 22-year-old Tyrolean won the final in Minsk in a direct duel for overall victory in 38.11 seconds against the Czech Karolina Erbanova (38.29/4.) and secured the trophy as second of the day with a nine point lead.

Winner in the last race was the Russian Angelina Golikova in 38.08 seconds.
