Shortstop Jorge Polanco of the Minnesota Twins will be banned for 80 games. The team mate of the German Max Kepler was tested positive for Stanozolol, an anabolic steroid, and receives the penalty for a first offence.
The ban will be lifted at the beginning of the season on 29. We were disappointed with the news that Jorge Polanco had violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” said a team statement,”We fully support this policy and efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing substances from our game. According to the protocol described in the Joint Drug Program, the Minnesota Twins will make no further comment on the matter.”
The twins thus have a gap in their daily lineup. If they rely on an internal solution, Eduardo Escobar would be the obvious alternative. Also, Ehire Adrianza could get operating time. According to MLB.com, Erick Aybar, who is in the camp under a Minor-League contract, will be part of the Big-League squad at the start of the season.
“Today, unfortunately, I accepted my 80-game ban on the positive test for Stanozolol,” Polanco said in a statement:”To be clear, I did not deliberately consume this steroid. I know now, however, that my intention is not good enough for an apology and I will pay the price for my wrong decision. The substance I had requested from my fitness trainer in the Dominican Republic and agreed to take was a combination of vitamin B12 and an iron supplement, something that is not unusual or illegal for professional athletes. Unfortunately, what I was given was not this supplement. “And I take full responsibility for what is inside my body.”
In 2017, Polanco beat Polanco in 133 games.256/.313/.410 with 13 home runs and 74 RBI. It was his first longer stay in the MLB.
