MLB: Dodgers: Turner misses the start of the season with a wrist fracture

Job’s news for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Third baseman Justin Turner broke his wrist in a jumping training game on Monday night. So he will be out for weeks and miss the start of the MLB season.

Turner was hit in the first inning of the Dodgers’ game against Oakland Athletics by a pitch from right-handed Kendall Graveman on his left wrist. With pain he went straight to the dugout and was replaced by Donovan Solano.

“Of course, I was hoping the x-rays would be negative, but there’s a small non-dislocated fracture,” Turner said after the game.

Meanwhile, General Manager Farhan Zaidi explained that it is still unclear how long the current NLCS MVP will fail. However, it would take at least a few weeks. On Tuesday, Turner will meet with the attending physician again.

While Turner will safely start the season on the Disabled List, Logan Forsythe is expected to take third base. So Chase Utley would probably start at second base.

“We’re a team without J.T. not as good as with him,” said Zaidi, who continued: “But we have a good feeling about our internal options. “There are boys who can occupy several positions.”

In the pre-season, Turner beat .322 with 21 home runs and 71 RBI. He was also hit 19 times by pitches – good enough for third place in the league.
