LeBron James doesn’t think much of pre-playoffs, as has recently been thrown into the room. The star of the Cleveland Cavaliers thinks that a team that hasn’t reached at least eighth place in their conference shouldn’t have another chance for the postseason.
“No, no, no. That’s bullshit,” James told Dave McMenamin (ESPN), wiping the considerations of pre-playoffs off the table. You have to earn your place in the playoffs. There’s no room for a consolation prize. What are you playing for?”
LeBron has already shown itself to be a great supporter of the current format. In the past, however, there have been considerations that there could be no distinction between conferences in the postseason. Another option would be pre-playoffs, in which places seven to ten of each conference would play out the two remaining playoff places.
“A team can then reach the playoffs even though it has a worse record? No, that’s bullshit for me. I think the current format of the playoffs is just right,” James said, “It just changes the story of the game if you want to change the seeds and playoffs.
