MLB: Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner breaks his hand

Bad news for the San Francisco Giants: Pitcher Madison Bumgarner broke his left hand after being hit by a line drive during jumping practice. The club confirmed that on Friday.

In the third inning of the duel against Kansas City, a comebacker from Royals baseman Whit Merrifield hit Bumgarner’s hand.

“MadBum” was taken off the field after the incident. ESPN reporter Buster Olney then reported that the 28-year-old will be absent for six to eight weeks.

For the Giants, who lost the match with 6:9, it is not the first setback: Right-handed Jeff Samardzija, the third pitcher, will also be missing the next weeks due to injury.

“It’s tough, but the boys will be fine,” Bumgarner said after the game.
