Biathlon: Dahlmeier loses battle for mass start classification

Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier (Partenkirchen) lost the exciting battle for the small crystal ball in the mass start at the World Cup finale in the Russian Tyumen.

The 24-year-old finished the last race of the season in twelfth place after two shooting errors and fell behind Kaisa Mäkäräinen (Finland) in the discipline ranking. Dahlmeier went away empty-handed in the World Cup.

Victory in the last race of winter went to Darya Domracheva (Belarus) ahead of Paulina Fialkova (Slovakia) and Anais Chevalier (France). Vanessa Hinz (Schliersee) and Franziska Preuß (Haag) just missed the podium in fourth and fifth place. Karolin Horchler (Clausthal-Zellerfeld) was eighth.

In the fight for the overall World Cup, Mäkäräinen, who finished sixth in the mass start, was just ahead of Anastasiya Kuzmina (Slovakia/11.) after 22 races. Defending champion Dahlmeier finished fourth. Kuzmina had won the sprint and pursuit classification.
