Biathlon: National coach Hönig wants to continue

Gerald Hönig, national coach of the biathletes, has again confirmed that he wants to continue his work after the season.

“I would like to continue. Now there will be talks with the association, then we’ll see. Everything is open,” the 59-year-old said on ZDF television at the World Cup finale in Tyumen, Russia. Hönig has been looking after Laura Dahlmeier’s team since 2014.

Hönig concluded the winter with a positive conclusion: “The team can be very, very proud of what has been achieved,” he said.

After the disappointing eighth place of the women’s relay team started as the top favourite at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Hönig was criticized. The result is still painful, “but I am far from questioning the season for this reason,” the national coach emphasised. There is “a lot of potential” in the team.
