Figure skating: “Yearning for gold satisfied” – Savchenko indicates resignation

Six-time pair-skating world champion Alyona Savchenko has fuelled speculation about an imminent retirement from competitive sports: “The longing for gold at the Olympics has been satisfied,” said the 34-year-old in the ZDF sports studio.

In her fifth attempt, the Ukrainian-born athlete and her new partner Bruno Massot became Olympic champion at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in February. With her former partner Robin Szolkowy, she won bronze medals in 2010 and 2014.

After the World Cup show gala in Milan, Savchenko and Massot from Oberstdorf will go on holiday and after a tour through South Korea and talks with their support team will decide whether they want to continue their competitive career or not.
