National player Leon Draisaitl won the German duel with Tobias Rieder in the NHL. With his Edmonton Oilers, Draisaitl beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2. For Rieder and the Kings it was a setback in the close battle for playoff participation, but the Oilers won’t play a role in the race for the final round anyway.
Draisaitl remained in approximately 16 minutes ice time without gate participation. Rieder (10’34” on the ice) prepared the Kings for Jeff Carter’s 2’3″ goal. Connor McDavid was twice successful for Edmonton and with 96 scorer points took the lead in the league-wide leaderboard ahead of Nikita Kutscherow (95) from Tampa Bay Lightning.
Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer won 6-4 against Montreal Canadiens with the Washington Capitals, defending 17 of the 21 shots at his goal. The Capitals are still clearly in the lead in the Metropolitan Division, five points separate them from the second-placed Pittsburgh Penguins with Tom Kühnhackl.
