National basketball player Robin Benzing is out for weeks with a ligament injury in his ankle. This was announced by his club s.Oliver Würzburg on Monday, without giving more detailed information on the diagnosis.
The 29-year-old forward suffered the injury on Saturday when he lost to ratiopharm Ulm (74:91).
For Würzburg, who said goodbye to coach Dirk Bauermann at the end of the season on Sunday evening, his injury is a serious setback in the fight to make it into the play-offs of the top eight teams. With an average of 18.5 points per game, Benzing, who returned to Germany in Spain in 2017 after two years, is BBL’s top scorer.
Whether Benzing’s injury contributed to the final matches in the preliminary round of the World Cup qualifiers with the German national team on 29 May will be the cause of the injury. June against Austria and on 2 June against Austria. The question of how this will affect Georgia on 1 July is open.
Meanwhile, Würzburg announced that after the losses of Benzing and captain Kresimir Loncar (wrist injury) a player will be hired later this week.
