Handball: Achilles tendon rupture: season for Berlin Kopljar ended

The Foxes Berlin have to get along without Marko Kopljar in the Handball Bundesliga in the fight for the championship title. The 32-year-old Croatian played in the EHF Cup group game at France’s top club St. Gallen on Saturday. Raphael Handball (34:25) pulled a tear in the right Achilles tendon. The season is over for the backfield player.

“The retirement is very bitter for us, Marko was in very good shape in the last games and played a big part in the last successes,” said Füchse Managing Director Bob Hanning. Second in the Bundesliga standings, Christoph Reißky (22), who has been loaned to the second-league clubs TuSEM Essen, will return as a replacement.

Berlin had reached the quarter-finals early due to their victory in France. Koplyar injured himself at the end of the first half without outside influence. An operation should be performed as soon as possible.
