Almost two months ago, Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels withdrew his alleged oral confirmation to the Indianapolis Colts and decided to stay with the Patriots instead of becoming Head Coach in Indy. It is still unclear what exactly the motives behind the backpedal were – but at least Pat coach Bill Belichick now granted some insights into the process.
As New England’s head coach revealed at the team owner meeting, before the Super Bowl he simply could not have had a deeper conversation with McDaniels about his future.
“When the game was over, we had a chance to talk directly about the situation – unlike before, when we just wanted to talk about the game and the things we had to do to win,” quotes ESPN Belichick. “These were much deeper and longer right after the game.”
Which arguments convinced McDaniel exactly to the whereabouts did not let Belichick see through, however, he confirmed: “We could agree on some things. I am very pleased that he is still with us and remains here in his role. I think he’s one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL. I’m glad that based on our meeting – some things happened – we were able to reach an agreement and keep it.”
