NBA: G-League player dies on the field after collapse

Zeke Upshaw of Grand Rapids Drive Club of the G League has died two days after a collapse on the field. This was announced by the Detroit Pistons farm team on Monday. Upshaw was only 26 years old.

The Small Forward collapsed on Saturday just before the end of the game against the Long Island Nets (101:99) and was taken to a hospital. He died on Monday morning. So far there is no information on the cause of death.

Upshaw has been playing in Grand Rapids/Michigan since 2016. The NBA-G-League family is shaken by the tragic death of Zeke Upshaw,” said G-League President Malcolm Turner.

Grand Rapids Drive had reached the play-offs by defeating the Nets. The knockout match against the Raptors 905 was postponed from Wednesday to Friday.

“My prayers and thoughts are with family and friends during this difficult time. Calm down, my boy,” wrote Pistons star player Andre Drummond on Twitter. The team observed a minute’s silence on Monday before the match against the Los Angeles Lakers.
