MLB: 2018 Season Previews – AL West: Is a Texas hangover imminent?

The American League West will continue only via the Houston Astros in 2018. Their biggest opponent is probably their own psyche. Behind them, the Los Angeles Angels have upgraded and could become the attraction of the season thanks to a newcomer. The rest of the competition faces numerous question marks.

The defending champion is going into the new season as a big favourite. The Astros have kept their complete lineup together and strengthened themselves in the pitching area with starter Gerrit Cole and the relievers Joe Smith and Hector Rondon. On paper, it’s going to be hard to stop this team.

The Astros didn’t start the season as a huge favourite last year and it wasn’t until late that it became clear how good this team really is. Therefore, just as with the Cubs last year, there is a danger of a World Series hangover.

Forecast: 1st place in the AL West.
