Outfielder Jayson Werth has signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. The ex-Nationals player, however, still has to pass a medical check.
Werth will first participate in the Extended Spring Training in Peoria/Arizona to get fit. He will then join Triple-A Tacoma.
In 2017, Werth beat .226 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 70 games for the Washington Nationals. He had missed almost three months with a fracture in his foot.
In a total of seven years with the Washington Nationals, Werth was repeatedly plagued by injuries, averaging only 115 games per season. He has a strike average of .267 in his career and ranks 4th on the Nationals franchise list for home runs (109) and RBI (393).
The 38-year-old has played in the MLB for 15 years and has worked for Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies, with whom he won the World Series in 2008. In 2011 he went to Nationals for seven years and 126 million dollars.
