NBA: Bogut will not return this season

Center Andrew Bogut will no longer sign an NBA contract this season. Instead, he stays with his pregnant wife in Australia.

“I have decided not to return to the NBA in 2017/18 for various reasons,” Bogut wrote on Twitter: “I have been in Australia since February because my grandfather passed away.

In addition, his wife was expecting the second child together, whereby the doctors had found a “high-risk pregnancy”. That’s why she can’t travel, which is why Bogut wants to stay with her instead of signing a ten-day contract or a contract with an NBA team until the end of the season.

Bogut thanked the franchises who had contacted him and expressed interest: “I will be in shape and back for Training Camp 2018/19”.

The 2005 No.1 pick made 23 games for the Lakers this season, scoring 1.6 points and 3.4 rebounds. At the end of February, the 33-year-old had reached an agreement with the franchise on a buyout.
