NBA: Walker about Free Agency: “Wants to the Playoffs”

Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets will become a free agent in summer 2019. Now the Point Guard spoke a little about his future. For the former NCAA champion, sporting success is crucial.

“I’m a player who wants to win,” Walker said to Rick Bonnell of Charlotte Observer, “I deserve to be in the playoffs and compete against the best. That’s what the future’s all about.”

One should listen in Charlotte. Owner Michael Jordan’s franchise will almost certainly miss the playoffs this year, and the long-term and expensive contracts of Nicolas Batum (over 100 million until 2021) and Dwight Howard (23.8 million dollars next year) mean that there is little flexibility under the salary cap.

But before major decisions can be made, the Hornets would need a new General Manager after Charlotte fired Rich Cho a few weeks ago. When we have a new GM, we’ll see in which direction we’ll go,” and then postpone: “Then I’ll make the best decision for myself.

Walker still earns $12 million next season, a real bargain when you look at his numbers. The Point Guard plays 23.1 points and 5.7 assists per game during this season.
