The German cup winner Bayern Munich have been badly beaten in their first match after the separation from coach Sasa Djordjevic and are slipping into the crisis as championship leaders.
Under interim coach Emir Mutapcic, the Munich-based team lost 77:100 (37:50) at EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Saturday. It was the fourth defeat in the series of Bavarians who had already qualified for the play-offs and now stand just ahead of Alba Berlin (44:8) with 46:6 points.
“We admitted 100 points, the defense was bad, that’s the only reason,” said Bavaria captain Anton Gavel at Telekom Sport briefly, he expressly did not want to go into the coaching situation. Only on Thursday the club had announced the surprising separation from Djordjevic.
In the run-up to this decision, Munich had failed in the EuroCup semi-final against Darüssafaka Istanbul and two days later had then clearly lost the top match of the league to Berlin with 72:91.
It was the first league bankruptcy after 20 successes in a row. However, problems in internal communication are said to have been the decisive factor for the separation. Only in February the Munich team under Djordjevic celebrated their first cup victory in 50 years.
In the fight for the Bundesliga final, the Giessen 46ers celebrated an important 107:96 (54:47) against medi Bayreuth on Saturday.
The 46ers can hope for a place among the top eight in tenth place, Bayreuth is still quite certainly in fifth place. After 92:103 (49:45) at Science City Jena, the BG Göttingen is still in danger of relegation.
