MLB: Angels: Ohtani takes first defeat against Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox (14-2) have also continued their dominance on the west coast. They beat the Los Angeles Angels (13-4) 10-1, the Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani had to get out early with bubbles on his pitching hand and suffered his first defeat in the MLB.

Ohtani’s day began not very promisingly, as Boston’s Mookie Betts greeted him directly with a lead-off Homun. In the second inning the Red Sox did two more runs and afterwards the evening for Ohtani (2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB) was already over. He also took a wild pitch and left the mound with bubbles on his hand and 66 thrown pitches.

The Red Sox did not stop at the bullpen of the hosts and managed six runs against Reliever Luke Bard. Even more: they beat four home runs against Bard (1 2/3 IP, 6 H, 6 ER).

Due to Boston’s early clear lead, manager Alex Cora even managed to take out starting pitcher David Price after only five innings (3 H, ER, 4 BB, 6 SO). Brian Johnson then pitched three shutout innings.

Best man of the Red Sox, however, was Betts, who hit three home runs and walked to base twice more.
