MLB: Freeman leaves game after wrist hit prematurely

Freddie Freeman had to leave his Atlanta Braves’ game against Philadelphia Phillies early on Wednesday. The first baseman was hit by a pitch on his left wrist.

In the eighth inning, Freeman got a 90 mph pitch from Hoby Milner on his left wrist, the wrist he broke last year in a similar scene. It was out for weeks then.

Right after the hit, Freeman didn’t even wait for the helpers, but went straight into the dugout, put his helmet and club down and disappeared into the tunnel. A diagnosis has not yet been made.

“It’s worrying because it was the same hand,” said manager Brian Snitker after the game. “Hopefully… I don’t know. I don’t know. I can’t comment on that at the moment,” Snitker was visibly affected by the situation.

“I hope he’s okay,” said Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy. “I wasn’t here last year. The situation now, at least, does not look terrible right away. Hopefully the tests will confirm that tomorrow.”
