The San Diego Padres (8-13) just missed the first No-Hitter in their franchise history on Friday. Starter Tyson Ross brought the team from California into the eighth inning at the Arizona Diamondbacks (13-6) without damage, before First Baseman Christian Walker finished the run with a double.
Walker’s stroke sailed over Padres-Center-Fielder Franchy Cordero and equalized the score 1-1 on two outs, and Ross ended up with ten strikeouts on three walks.
Closer Brad Hand took care of the last out in the eighth inning and left nothing to burn in the ninth section. Previously, the Padres-Offense provided the 4:1 away win with three runs.
This means that the Padres remain the only franchise that did not manage a No-Hitter in the MLB. Chris Young only missed two outs against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2006, but Joe Randa ended the season with a two-run homoun.
Cordero, who could not prevent the eighth Inning Walkers hit into Center Field, provided the first highlight of the game in the fourth section.
With a 489 foot solo homer, the 23-year-old was the longest of the current season. It was Cordero’s second home run of the season, so he has already discontinued his brand from last year.
