NFL: Philadelphia Eagles Expand Contract with Quarterback Nick Foles

Nick Foles has got a new contract from the Philadelphia Eagles for the coming season. In addition to a salary increase, the contract of the nominal backup quarterback of the reigning champions should also include a mutual option for an extension for the 2019 season.

The NFL Network reports that Foles will receive a $2 million signing bonus for the deal. In addition, if the 29-year-old becomes the starter of the Eagles and achieves some records in the coming season, there is the possibility of triggering further bonuses in the millions.

“I know there was a trade in the room. I want to get the opportunity to be a starter again,” Foles said in a radio interview just last week. “But I know my role in Philly. I’ve shown what I can do and I love this town.”

Foles’ contract for the 2018 season was originally endowed with seven million US dollars. After leading to the first Super Bowl in franchise history last winter with the injury to Carson Wentz Philadelphia, he significantly increased his market value with the MVP Award in the final, among other things.

The NFL Network also reports that the Foles deal does not change Wentz’s future. After a cruciate ligament rupture in Week 14 of last season, a start on the first day of 2018 against Atlanta Falcons is “still the goal”, according to Wentz, but not secured.
