MLB: Cabrera joins Indians with Minor League contract

Melky Cabrera has signed a Minor League contract with the Cleveland Indians. The outfielder was one of a number of free agents who had not found a new team during the offseason.

Only one medical check is still pending before Cabrera will return to play. The 33-year-old played for the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals last year, beating .285 with 17 home runs and 85 RBI in 156 games.

Once the commitment is official, Cabrera will play for Triple-A Columbus to get back into shape. He could then become an alternative for the MLB squad.

Cabrera beat .286 in his career with 131 home runs and 768 RBI. He was also part of the National League’s all-star team during his time with the San Francisco Giants in 2012. He also played for the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays.
