What are the first five picks to launch today’s NFL drag? How many quarterbacks will go away in the first round, and who are the top ten players in their class? Christian Schimmel of derdraft.de, mySPOX user butfumlbe93 and SPOX editors Pascal De Marco and Adrian Franke are forecasting the first round of the draft, all three draft days will be live and with original commentary on DAZN.
mySPOX user butfumlbe93: Six. This year the temptation is too big for the many teams with QB-Need, especially since the class is sinking rapidly after these six. Darnold, Mayfield and to my incomprehension Allen already hear their name in the top 10 and wherever Rosen falls, he leaves the board Thursday night and should the Patriots manage to get his hands on him, the League deserves nothing less than another 15 years of Pats dynasty. Lamar Jackson goes to 15 at the latest and Mason Rudolph is drawn at the end of the first round at the latest due to the 5-Year option.
Pascal De Marco (SPOX): In my opinion, Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield will make it into the top 10 – and quite rightly so. In any case, Rosen and Darnold bring a lot to become franchise quarterbacks. With Mayfield I have some doubts here because of his measurements, but his tape is promising. Furthermore, I can imagine Allen and Jackson also going through uprades within the first ten picks of board. As a candidate, I have the Bills, Cardinals, Dolphins and even the Patriots and Saints in mind. If these uprades do not happen, Allen and Jackson go into round one later. I don’t see Oklahoma States Mason Rudolph and Washington’s Luke Falk here. I expect five quarterbacks tonight.
Christian Schimmel (derdraft.de): Go with me, Pascal: The simple and probably correct answer is 5th Allen, Darnold and Mayfield pretty sure in the top 5, roses in the top 10 and Lamar Jackson somewhere between 11 and 32, Darnold and Mayfield now seem absolute No-Brainer and together with Josh Allen in the debate for the First Overall Pick. Mayfield and Allen can also be targets for the jets at 3 and the Broncos at 5. Rosen seems to be dropping a bit at the moment, but he will certainly go in the first round. Jackson needs a coaching staff who is completely convinced of him, but I assume that a team will get him via uptrade by the end of the first round at the latest. Who that will be is completely open. I think the Cardinals and the Saints would be good fits for him.
Adrian Franke (SPOX): I agree with our user: I guess – even though I don’t classify Rudolph as a project in the first round – on six quarterbacks tonight. Mayfield, Darnold, Allen and Rosen will be off the board in the top 10 and it wouldn’t shock me if all four were selected in the top 6. I also see Lamar Jackson in round 1, be it for Arizona or for a team like the Saints or the Patriots. Rudolph will be interesting at the end of the round, firstly because of the already mentioned 5th-Year option, but also because in the last third of the first round there are several teams who would like to trade back for more picks. I also guess that the Eagles won’t pick 32, but someone will secure this slot – like Minnesota did with Teddy Bridgewater back then.
