MLB: Gary Sanchez beats Walk-Off Homun against the Minnesota Twins

The New York Yankees (15-9) did not meet for long periods on Thursday, but Gary Sanchez provided a walk-off Homun against the Minnesota Twins (8-12) in the ninth inning for a 4-3 victory. The Yankees used it to sweep their four-game series with the Twins.

With a 3-Run-Homerun against Twins-Reliever Fernando Rodney Sanchez turned a 1:3 deficit to victory. “After last year’s play-off, this is a very special moment for me personally,” said Sanchez.

In the first five innings the Yankees did not score a single hit, twins starter Kyle Gibson scored ten strikeouts at two walks over six sections. On the other hand, left-handed Jordan Montgomery (5.0 IP, 3 BB, 6 K) had to take two Earned Runs, Reliever Domingo German one more.

Didi Gregorius reached the first base by an error of the Twins in the ninth inning, Giancarlo Stanton followed him with an infield hit. “If we manage to get traffic on the bases, it’ll lack momentum,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Sanchez was still without a hit throughout the day, but could see a tactic of the opposing pitcher: “They always attacked me on the inside,” he said. It was his 59th career homer, but the first to walk off.

Max Kepler didn’t get a good day, was 0 for 4 and got a strikeout. Behind Joe Mauer, however, Kepler is still in second place in the OBP of all regular Twins regulars with .364.
