MLB: Inside-the-Park-Homerun of Tampa Bay Rays’ Denard Span

Denard Span of the Tampa Bay Rays (12-13) has beaten a home run in the game against the Boston Red Sox (19-7), which never left the ball park. In his 12-6 win over the AL East leaders, Span benefited from a happy bounce of his hit from the grass in Center Field.

In the second inning Span started a single hit, which made its way to the wall of Fenway Park by a false assessment of Red Sox Center Fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.

Span then started the fastest sprint around the bases of the current season: The 34-year-old circled the diamond in 15.8 seconds, no other player did so in a shorter time. The Rays set it at 2:1.

“When I passed first base, I saw that the ball slipped through,” Span said, “It was hard to see how far away from him the ball was, but at second base, I saw that it could be enough.”

The Rays scored 18 hits over the entire game and ensured their eighth consecutive victory against Boston.
