MLB: Angels postpone Shohei Ohtani’s next start to the weekend

Shohei Ohtani will probably not pitch again until next weekend due to his ankle injury on Friday. The Los Angeles Angels had originally planned their next start on Tuesday.

Instead of playing the Baltimore Orioles at home, the Japanese player will now start one of the three days at the Seattle Mariners (Friday to Sunday), as manager Mike Sciosica explained on Sunday: “We plan to take Shohei to Seattle sometime this weekend to make sure that he will have left the injury behind him. He should also do an appropriate workout to further test the ankle instead of rushing it. It’s the best plan for Shohei and us.”

On Sunday, Ohtani threw the ball in the outfield and, according to Scioscia against the Yankees, was available as a pinch hitter, but was not used in the 1:2 bankruptcy. It is now speculated, however, that Ohtani will appear in the series against Baltimore as a designated hitter.

In his debut season, the Japanese is 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA. He had won his first two starts, but in his third appearance against the Red Sox with bubbles on his throwing hand, he finally gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

At the record, Ohtani beats .341 with four home runs and twelve RBI in twelve games as DH.
