MLB: New York Mets part with former All-Star

The New York Mets have split up with Matt Harvey. The 29-year-old pitcher will be released on Saturday. The Mets will have seven days to trade or release Harvey. The veteran refused a transfer to the Minor League.

Harvey’s form reached a new low point on Thursday when he allowed three walks, three hits and a total of five runs against the Atlanta Braves. Harvey was booed by the Mets supporters.

“I think some teams will try Matt Harvey,” ESPN quotes Mets-GM Sandy Alderson.

Harvey was picked seventh in the MLB draft by the Mets in 2010. In 2014 he was operated on his elbow joint and was absent for one season. The American returned impressively in 2015, playing more innings than any pitcher before after such an injury.

Since the 2016 season, Harvey has been unable to continue the achievements he made at the time. His ERA deteriorated steadily, averaging seven allowed runs this season, with 33 hits in 27 innings.
