NBA: Advisors: Nuggets should not pull option for Jokic

According to media reports, Nikola Jokic’s advisor advised Denver Nuggets not to take the Serbian team option for next season. That would reduce their chances of retaining him in the long term.

Jokic is still in his rookie contract with the Nuggets, which includes a team option worth $1.6 million for the coming season. If the nuggets pull this, he would be Unrestricted Free Agent in the summer of 2019.

Now The Athletic reports that Jokic’s agent has told the franchise not to take the option, as this would significantly reduce the 23-year-old’s long-term commitment.

If the nuggets let the option expire – the deadline is 29 June – Jokic would become Restricted Free Agent in the upcoming offseason. The nuggets could thus match offers from other franchises. It is very likely that there will be such offers: With 18.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists on average he played a great season.
