After Matt Ryan extended in Atlanta, the next mega quarterback deal is waiting in Green Bay: The Packers have been working for a while on Aaron Rodgers’ new contract, Packers Managing Director Brian Gutekunst is now extremely optimistic.
“Both sides are working on it, and we are confident that we will soon reach an agreement,” Gutekunst told Pro Football Talk.
The Packers had already publicly confirmed in February that negotiations with Rodgers were underway. The quarterback himself has already announced that he sees his future in Green Bay and wants to extend it with the Packers in the long term – from a sober financial point of view he would not be in a good negotiating position anyway.
Rodgers is still under contract in 2018 and 2019, and that to the comparatively cheap Cap Hits. By means of two franchise tags, Green Bay could also bind him for the next four seasons if the fronts were hardened.
There’s no evidence of that. The trend in Green Bay for several weeks suggests that Rodgers could sign his new deal before the start of the summer training camp.
