MLB: Red Sox vs. Yankees: MLB announces regular season games in London 2019

Major League Baseball will host its first Regular Season matches in Europe in June 2019. As MLB, MLBPA and the Mayor of London announced on Tuesday, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will play two games at London Stadium, the 2019 Olympic Stadium in London.

On 29 and 30 June 2019 the MLB will celebrate its official European premiere. The London Stadium is expected to seat 55,000 spectators. The United Kingdom are following in the footsteps of other international markets such as Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia, where regular season matches have already been played.

Both sides agreed on a two-year contract, which provides that games will also be held in London in 2020. The teams for 2020 will be announced at a later date.

Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement: “Major League Baseball is excited to bring one of the most historic rivalries in sport to the passionate fans in London. Nothing is more influential than bringing live matches and our talented players to the fans in our ongoing efforts to keep baseball going. This is our most important company in Europe and we look forward to presenting Major League Baseball in one of the world’s largest cities.”
