MLB: Mariners: Robinson Cano breaks metacarpal at hit-by-pitch

Job’s news for the Seattle Mariners. Team star Second Baseman Robinson Cano broke his right hand metacarpal after a hit-by-pitch against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. An operation is not excluded.

“I’m going to see a specialist on Tuesday morning. They haven’t been able to tell me how long I could fail, but it’s a bad break, so I’ll probably need surgery,” Cano told reporters after his M’s went bankrupt 4-5. “All I can do now is to get back to 100 percent quickly to get back on the field.”

Cano was hit by an 88-mile-an-hour fast ball by left-handed Blaine Hardy in the third inning. After a short treatment he was finally replaced by Andrew Romine.

The Mariners later announced that it was a fracture of the fifth metacarpal.

This year Cano .287 beats with four home runs and 23 RBI. He has played all 39 games for the Mariners so far and never played less than 150 games a year in his last eleven seasons.
