MLB: Sox-Pitcher injures his shoulder while throwing a glove

Relief pitcher Carson Smith sustained a potentially severe shoulder injury on Monday for throwing a glove of anger after replacing him. The Boston Red Sox have already put the right-handed man on the Disabled List.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski announced on Tuesday that there is still no forecast as to when Smith will return. The exact diagnosis was a subluxation of the right shoulder, i.e. he dislocated his shoulder incompletely.

Dombrowski called the injury “unfortunate” and stated: “It is potentially a serious injury.” Smith himself said: “Any shoulder injury is not good. The elbow is one thing, but the shoulder is not something to joke about. So, yeah, I’m worried.” Smith will shortly be seeking a second opinion from an independent doctor.

Smith gave Khris Davis a home run in the eighth inning against Oakland Athletics 5:6. He then gave free rein to his frustration and threw away the glove, causing the injury.

Smith is 1-1 with a 3.77 and 18 strikeouts over 14 1/3 innings this season. To take his place in the squad, left-handed Bobby Poyner of Triple-A Pawtucket was appointed to the MLB team.
