MLB: Ex-All-Star Teixeira not surprised about doping case Cano

Former all-star Mark Teixeira spoke about the Robinson Cano doping case and was not surprised about his former teammate.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail. I love Robbie, but I’m just not surprised,” said Teixeira on ESPN Radio’s Michael Kay Show. “I really don’t want to go into it any further, but I think that many people basically say the same thing.”

Since the end of his career, Teixeira has worked as an expert for ESPN. Prior to that, he spent five years with Cano in the New York Yankees. They won the World Series together in 2009.

Teixeira made no precise assumptions, but said that he used Cano’s connections to his New York time as a basis for his assumption: “Let’s just look at this situation. Robbie Cano’s assistant was on the Biogenisis list.” Biogenisis was the wellness clinic, which was the focus of MLB’s latest major doping scandal in 2013.

“Now, of course, he had an assistant who bought things for him. Alex Rodriguez was caught in connection with Biogenisis, as was Melky Cabrera. Robbie and Melky were best friends. If anyone gets dragged into this group, it’s because there’s evidence. There are incriminating documents.”
