Shaquem Griffin was one of the biggest stories of this year’s drag – the linebacker is the first one-handed player of all time in the NFL. This circumstance is now official, Griffin has signed his rookie contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
This was confirmed by the team on Thursday. Griffin, who was selected by the seahawks in the fifth round of the drag, will collect up to $2.8 million over the next four years. Of that, $300,000 is guaranteed.
Shaquem Griffin is now officially reunited with his twin brother: Cornerback Shaquill Griffin was already playing with his brother in college, and he was also selected by the Seahawks in Draft 2017.
At the age of four, Shaquem Griffin’s left hand was amputated and a rare congenital disease had caused him great pain with every contact on his hand. Nevertheless, he managed to become one of the more productive college players of the past two years at UCF and was able to shine as a passport-rusher, among other things.
In the past few days he has already taken part in the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp, Seattle’s head coach Pete Carroll praised: “He felt visibly comfortable. It looks like the position (Weakside Linebacker) is the right choice for him. “He can play aggressively and use his speed.”
The Seahawks will start their Organized Team Activities on Monday.
