MLB: Cole passes home run to brother-in-law in Cantersieg

Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole continued his dominance for the Houston Astros in his 11-2 home win over the San Francisco Giants. He only made one mistake – and that remained in the family.

Cole improved his record to 5-1 and scored eight strikeouts in six innings. He only gave four hits and two earned runs (3 BB). Both runs were the result of a 2-run homerun in the fifth inning.

Beat this Brandon Crawford, shortstop of the Giants and brother-in-law of Cole! Cole is married to Crawford’s sister.

Cole’s frustration was limited afterwards: “He was a bit in the red, minus one, so it was fitting that he took a good pitch, unpacked a good swing and hit the home run. “I’m not enthusiastic about it, of course, but I’m not terribly disappointed.”

Crawford, who was 2-3 and still a single, reported: “After the single, I looked over at him to see if he smiled and found it funny that it was a bloop single. But that wasn’t the case,” said Crawford, who pondered: “I didn’t even look at him at the home run.”

“We talk a lot about baseball, but not really about our direct At-Bats,” Crawford said about his relationship with his brother-in-law.

Cole, in turn, reported that Crawford sent him a signed broken bat after a single in Cole’s MLB debut in 2013. Cole now returned the favor: “I signed my shoes from today’s game and I wrote Duine Kuiper’s homerun call’Outta Here’ on one and Jonny Miller’s “Adios Pelota” on the other and sent them over to him.”

Kuiper and Jon Miller are two of the TV and radio commentators of the San Francisco Giants.
