NBA: L.A. Clippers extend with Coach Doc Rivers

The L.A. Clippers have reached an agreement with Coach Doc Rivers to extend their contract. This was announced by the franchise on Wednesday. Rivers has been head coach for the Clippers since 2013 and is the most successful coach in franchise history.

“Doc is one of the best coaches in the NBA,” Clippers Chairman Steve Ballmer told club media about the renewal of his contract with Rivers: “We trust him to lead a hard-working, competitive team and take on this responsibility.

Since Rivers joined the Clippers head coach, only four NBA teams have a better record than the Los Angeles team (259-151). Rivers also tops the Clippers coaches’ leaderboard with 259 wins and a winning percentage of .632. The Clippers maintained silence about the period of extension or other contractual modalities.

“I am proud of the success we have had here over the past five years, but we are not yet finished with our work,” said Rivers after the contract extension. The Clippers have had a tough year with many challenges, but the team has proven its enormous potential and talent. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work and making our players better.”

In this regular season the Clippers missed the playoffs for the first time under Coach Rivers. In the first two years of the Rivers, the Clippers reached the Conference Semi Finals, but failed at the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder. In the two years that followed, round one was already over.
