NBA: Casey top candidate in Detroit – Clifford to the Magic?

According to media reports, Dwane Casey has emerged as the top candidate for the head coach position in the Detroit Pistons. Also the Orlando Magic are still searching and have probably spoken with Steve Clifford.

ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that Casey was the candidate of choice in Detroit. Previously, he was head coach at the Toronto Raptors, who fired him despite the best regular season in franchise history after another play-off.

The coaching position with the Pistons has been vacant since May 7. Stan van Gundy, who also served as President of Basketball Operations in a dual capacity, was dismissed on that date.

Meanwhile, the search for a head coach continues for the Orlando Magic. The Florida franchise had dismissed Frank Vogel at the end of the season. Now Marc Stein of the New York Times reports that a job interview was conducted with Steve Clifford, who had previously been dismissed by the Hornets. What came out of the talks is not yet known.

The Magic and Pistons are two of three teams without a head coach. Third is the Toronto Raptors.
