NBA: Raptors talk to Messina and Udoka

The Toronto Raptors are apparently considering two assistants to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in their search for a head coach. According to media reports, interviews were conducted with Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka.

This is reported by ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Accordingly, job interviews with the two Spurs assistants took place last Thursday and Friday. They are said to have spent a whole day with Raptors President Masai Ujiri.

Messina has been on the staff of Gregg Popovich near the Spurs since 2014. The Italian is considered one of the best international coaches ever. In Europe, for example, he coached CSKA Moscow and Real Madrid, among others, he has won four Euroleague titles in his CV.

Udoka is still a blank slate as head coach. The 40-year-old played with the Spurs under Pop until 2011, one year later he joined the coaching staff. For both candidates it applies that they also stand with other Franchises on the note – then also the Orlando Magic are to have expressed interest in a co-operation.
