NBA: Media: Philly extends with Coach Brown

The Philadelphia 76ers have apparently reached an agreement with their head coach Brett Brown to extend their contract prematurely. This is reported by ESPN and The Athletic in agreement.

Brown had only one contract left for the coming season, and the report says he will be with the Sixers until 2022. Brown has been the head coach in Philadelphia for five seasons.

The long-time assistant coach (San Antonio Spurs) only won 47 games in his first three seasons as part of the Philadelphia “Process”, including only ten wins in the 2015/16 season, but the current season has seen a rapid upswing.

Led by Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, the Sixers won 52 games in 2017/18 and reached the playoffs as the third-placed team in the East. The second round was against Boston Celtics.

Sixers-GM Bryan Colangelo had already mentioned after the playoff-out that they wanted to get together with Brown soon: “I don’t think it’s a healthy situation if a coach has only one more year contract. “This affects so many aspects of the job.”
