Stephen Curry has won pretty much everything there is to win in the NBA in his career. Only one trophy is missing from the Golden State Warriors’ Guard – the award of the final MVP. Curry doesn’t give it much thought.
“This has no positive or negative impact on my career,” Curry said calmly when the final MVP topic was already raised at the press conference with the second question. “If we win again and I don’t become Finals MVP, it’s not tragic. I’ll still have a smile on my face.”
Curry won the MVP award twice for Most Valuable Player in the Regular Season, but never in the finals. In 2015 Andre Iguodala was awarded, in 2017 the trophy went to Kevin Durant.
“As always, I will play aggressively and with a lot of self-confidence and try to help my team win,” Curry explained his personal focus. “Whenever I succeed, good things happen. It doesn’t matter if I become final MVP or not.”
Curry nevertheless achieved good results for the Warriors in 2015 and 2017. In his first finals Curry scored 26.0 points and 6.3 assists on average, in 2017 he even scored 26.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.4 assists.
