NBA: McGee before Game 2: “Can’t be complacent”

JaVale McGee of the Golden State Warriors has warned against going into Game 2 of the finals with complacency. He also commented on JR Smith’s mistake. According to him, this one should never have happened.

“We feel great. We are now 1-0 ahead and are where we wanted to be after game 1. But we can’t get complacent now and we have to play even harder in Game 2, especially in the first quarter,” McGee told SPOX and DAZN in the context of Media Availability before Game 2.

The scene at the end of the regular season, when JR Smith was dribbling down the clock instead of taking a throw for possible victory, wasn’t much talked about by the Warriors. “We look at ourselves,” McGee said. “So we talked more about how JR got the ball in the first place. We should have gotten the rebound, then we could have taken some time off.”

The weak defense of the team, especially from the first half of the first game, must now be turned off. “We have to be more aggressive. We need to make sure we’re all more focused. But one good thing was that we kept the turnovers low – that’s a big issue for us. That’s how we have to fix it.”
