MLB: Boston Red Sox put Dustin Pedroia back on Disabled List

The Boston Red Sox have put Second Baseman Dustin Pedroia back on the Disabled List after just three games. In the previous MVP, inflammation occurred in the operated knee.

After undergoing left knee surgery in October to treat cartilage damage, Pedroia was not activated until May 25th. Since then, he has only played three games before landing on the DL again.

Pedroia was originally in Boston’s lineup last Thursday, but his knee problems were so severe that he was eliminated. On Friday it was not possible either, so that the DL decision was made on Saturday.

“He hasn’t recovered after yesterday and I think it’s the smartest thing we can do now,” commented manager Alex Cora on Pedroia’s retirement. “I know he’s a little frustrated. It is what it is. It was a serious operation. I hope he’ll be back sooner rather than later. But like I said, I’m gonna take special care of him anyway.”

Besides Pedroia the Red Sox also put Outfielder Mookie Betts with an abdominal muscle strain on the DL. He cannot return to the squad until 8 June at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Sox activated Sam Travis and left-handed Bobby Poyner of Triple-A Pawtucket to fill up the two squad positions.
