The Philadelphia 76ers and General Manager Bryan Colangelo are going their separate ways with immediate effect. The franchise confirmed in a statement via Twitter that it had complied with Colangelo’s request for resignation.
It has now become clear from internal investigations that the relationship between Colangelo and the team, as well as the possibility of continuing to run the franchise, has been compromised. Colangelo had subsequently offered his resignation.
The decision is the consequence of the continuing rumours and a report by The Ringer, according to which Colangelo on the social media platform Twitter with various accounts is said to have sharply criticized his players and spread insider information, among other things.
The report listed in detail how the suspicious accounts stood up for Colangelo’s work and criticized both Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz and former 76ers players Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. Meanwhile, head coach Brett Brown will temporarily take over Colangelo’s functions until a successor is found.
