NBA: Ayton: “I know I’ll be the first pick”

Deandre Ayton is considered a big favourite on the first pick in the 2018 draft, and after his Phoenix Suns workout, the center pretended to be the top pick. That’s why Ayton won’t do workouts for other teams.

“I know I’ll be the first pick,” Ayton told reporters in Phoenix. “Nobody told me that, but I know it. I deserve this because I’ve worked hard for it.”

Ayton, who was born in the Bahamas, had already spent some time in the state of Arizona. During his high school years the family moved from Ayton to Arizona, later the Center attended the University of Arizona at Tucson.

“This is my second home and it would be a blessing to move to number one and stay here.” In Phoenix he would meet Devin Booker, of whom Ayton has a high opinion. “We would be Shaq and Kobe 2.0,” the center said and spoke of a potentially great era in the desert state.

In addition to Ayton, Luka Doncic from Real Madrid will also be given a chance at the first pick. The draft will take place on June 21 in Brooklyn.
